Marques de Caceres Rioja Reserva 2001
Tempranillo
from Rioja, Spain
winemaker's notes:
Number 87 on the Wine.com 100 of 2007!
85% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha Tinta & Graciano
Bright, vivid dark ruby color. Intense bouquet that brings to mind jelly made from fruits of the forest (bilberries) and sweet spice. Good concentration in the mouth with delicious tannins that highlight the wine's rich fruit that has become more complex following aging in barrel. On the whole, an unctuous wine with a pleasant fullness that lingers on the palate with a depth of refined toasted notes. A very elegant wine with superb potential for development.
Just like our Gran Reserva wines, the Reservas are only produced from vintages classed as "excellent" or "very good". The Reservas are matured for 22 months in oak barrels from central France and for 2 years or more in bottle, depending on the date of release.
Marries well with savory fish dishes such as fresh tuna in spicy tomato sauce, refined delicatessen products (chorizo, salami), all kinds of beef (roasted, stewed or grilled), foie gras, duck, partridge, game and mature cheese.

This wine is proof of what a great year 2001 was for Rioja. Fantastic with steak. Let it breathe a bit... and enjoy.
I cracked this puppy open with some friends last night and everyone loved it. I would buy at least half a case ... this is certainly a giftable wine. :-)
Heavy, almost musky aged fruit and barrel flavor. You can taste its age. 3 1/2 stars. I know some would enjoy this wine more than I, as I prefer a cleaner finish.

This bottle is like the time after a heavy lunch, between 2:30 and 4:30 in the afternoon, when you're sitting at your desk at work about to fall asleep with nothing to do but check the "erotic services" section of Craigslist to see how many North Korean women have emigrated to your area.
Have had this one before, but something wasn't right. the cork was very damp and brittle, but the wine wasn't totally ruined. still, i think you can get better wines for this price.
Smooth and easy to drink right now. Drink with food or alone.
Fantastic with lamb. Took 2 bottles to a dinner party and everyone wanted the label. Buying more today.
Nice choice for a wine that is differnet and has a nice, rich flavor that does better when aired fully
This wine is so smooth, smells heavenly and impressed my son and daughter in law who have always said they don't care for wine.
Nice body not as smooth as expected
Wow! This wine is so well balanced and structured it's a steal at this price. What I look for in a wine: a balance of fruit and tannins and excellent complexity! 92 pts to me!
This was a great recommendation....and I loved it.
As a Spanish wine lover, I musa say tris is a great tasteful wine. Not many Spaniard can afford to drink tris wine on a daily basis. If you can please do. Also godo wines to drink, coto, and marques de riscal they are wines too godo to be trufe. Among many others.
We really enjoyed this full bodied bold wine. It was very rich and fragrant and paired well with dark chocolate.
A wonderfully well rounded, toasty, smoky flavor, this marries well with strong tastes such as hardy cheeses, roast beefs - enough of a treat that I'm a repeat buyer.
