When adding this one to my last order, there was a very good reason. I had watched a wine educational DVD a few weeks ago (by Jancis Robinson), during which she interviewed a wine maker in Spain. That winemaker stated very firmly that his opinion was that the Tempranillo grape was not only the original, but the finest grape on Earth for making wine. Very bold statement there.
I tried this Marques de Arienzo 1998 Crianza today with smoked and peppered rainbow trout. First nose brought a smile to my face and the first taste made me wonder how I have never managed to try Tempranillo before. At under $20 a bottle, I feel this is a great price for a very nice enjoyable red. No red lover should be concerned about being less than pleased with this one. In fact I am a little shocked that it is not at least $30-$40 a bottle.
I have also picked up a few bottles of the Marques de Arienzo 1994 Grand Reserve
as well. I have yet to try it, but after this experience I am sure that I will enjoy it as well. I will most certainly be adding some more sessions with the Tempranillo wines to my hobby.
Try this with a nice hot serving of rich sausage lasagna.
