Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Winemaker's Notes

100% Nero d'Avola, a variety native to Sicily, sometimes referred to as the "Godfather of Sicilian red wines". The MandraRossa estate vineyards are near the town of Menfi in southwestern Sicily.

Ruby red with flashes of orange with a fine, penetrating bouquet. Layers of damson, black cherry and licorice abound in this smooth and supple wine.

Nero d'Avola demonstrates a notable capacity for aging and is a splendid match with rich, flavorful pasta dishes, grilled red meats and hard, spicy cheeses.

My wife and I purchased this wine hoping it would be as good as the Nero d' Avola produced by Quibli that we used to drink regularly while in Italy. We both agree that this wine was better!

I had been introducedd to Nero d'Avola a few years back by a friend who lives in Sicily. Since then I had bought several bottles and enjoyed them. This wine does not compare favorably to my previous tastings. It is not unpleasant, but lacks the character and full body that should characterize a good Nero d'Avola.

With poor soil (great for grapes), warm sunshine, little...
