Our 2006 Napa Valley Merlot is an intense ruby red. The nose is filled with scents of tangerines, roses, and tobacco. The mid-palate is a tightly integrated mixture of blackberries, plums, and leather. Fine-grained tannins and great acidity hold the wine together as the finish melts into earthy cocoa and cassis. This Merlot will be at its peak from 2013 through 2016.

Nice wine, lots of fruit on the nose, a bit overly suppressed tannins, which make me think of tempranillo grapes. The fruit is nice, with some fresh raspberry, and a cherry undertone to the taste, with some mocha on the finish. Good for this price point ($20).

I have never been a Merlot fan however I still drink it from time to time however I could not drink this did not like it at all.

Luna is something of an expert with Merlot, and for under $20 try a bottle. Smooth & lush, with integrated tannins and a silky finish, this is a beauty. Its funny that while Miles in Sideways denegrates Merlot, in one of the final scenes he's shown drinking a pricy Bordeaux that contains a substantial amount of Merlot in the blend. As a wine geek, it cracked me up.
