The Monte Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon is a hand crafted wine sourced from the best vineyard blocks within Monte Rosso. This is a full-bodied wine revealing flavors of melted chocolate, black cherry, and earthy aromatics with accents of anise and brown spice. The dark concentrated fruit interlaces with firm, velvety tannins to result in a balanced wine with a long, lingering finish.
It is a perfect complement to warm, earthy dishes, game and red meat such as wild boar, venison and grilled filet mignon. One of the best vintages yet.
The Wine Advocate - "Even more powerful, the dense plum/purple-tinged 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso Vineyard looks to be nearly as prodigious. It offers a big, sweet kiss of smoked herbs, burning embers, black currants, black cherries and licorice. Dense, full-bodied and unctuously textured as well as long, it, too, is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Monte Rosso Vineyard that was aged in a combination of new French oak (85%) and new American oak (15%) for 22 months prior to bottling. It should drink well for 20-30+ years.

Twice as large as Napa in size, Sonoma County only makes about a half the amount of wine as her northeasterly neighbor. But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the Joneses, or Napa-ites if you will. Grape varieties are more varied here, from Pinot Noir and Zinfandel to Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
Notable FactsThe largest sub-AVAs of Sonoma include Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley and Sonoma Valley. Each sub-AVA, with its own micro-climate, is unique in its grape varieties and styles of wine. Dry Creek makes a mean Zinfandel while Russian River produces stand up Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Alexander Valley makes some of the better Cabernet Sauvignons in the county and Sonoma Valley creates excellent wines from all the above varieties. Other grapes found throughout Sonoma include Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Syrah.
