Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
This powerful and mineral wine has intense fruit, flower, pepper and cinnamon aromas and flavors. It is essential to age this wine in the bottle: 10 to 20 years will bring out the best in its development.
"Another vibrant, precise wine from this often misunderstood vintage, the 2009 Corton-Charlemagne boasts stunning precision and class from start to finish. Citrus, pears, white flowers and crushed rocks are some of the many nuances that vibrate on the bright, crystalline finish. In this tasting, the 2009 Corton tastes like it has barely budged over the last year. It is far too young to even consider opening. Anticipated maturity: 2015+."
The Wine Advocate
"Good pale color. Subdued but pure high-pitched aromas of lemon, wild herbs, nutmeg, lavender, violet and white pepper, with a strong steely quality contributing to the impression of lift. The palate offers extraordinary definition and verve for the vintage, showing superb acid cut to the flavors of lemon, crushed rock and menthol. The tactile aftertaste saturates the palate with citrus peel and wet stone. This should be long-lived. 95(+?) points "
International Wine Cellar
"This elegant wine is packed with peach and apple flavors. Intense, with excellent balance and poise, building on the
palate to a long, lemon- and spice-filled aftertaste. Best from 2014 through 2025."
"A notably ripe nose of green fruit, citrus rind and wet stone that is trimmed in light wood toast is followed by rich, powerful and very concentrated but not heavy or ponderous big-bodied flavors that ooze a fine minerality on the long, pure and balanced finish. This is not as refined as usual but it is certainly an imposing vintage for what is year in and year out one of Jadot's best whites. 92-94 ponts"
