A venerable Chianti showing rich fruit and lively aromatics. 80% Sangiovese is complemented by 20% Merlot and careful oak aging. Age-worthy, but can be enjoyed now with roasted meats and bean dishes.
Dense ruby red in color. The nose is fruity and dense with the scents of rich red berries, spice and toasted notes. Well-knit structure and smooth on the palate. Pitch perfect balance of tannins and acidity.
"The 2005 Chianti Classico Riserva (80% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot) is made from lower yields than the straight Chianti Classico, and sees both more new oak and a longer period of barrel aging. It is certainly a darker, richer wine, but not necessarily more complex. Here the style favors an overt expression of dark cherries, plums, spices and toasted oak, all of which come together with notable intensity. Some of the aromatics have taken a bit of a back seat here, but this is still a lovely wine. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015. "
