Leeuwin Estate Art Series Shiraz 2007
Syrah/Shiraz from Margaret River, Australia
The color is a deep violet with brilliant purple edges. The bouquet displays lifted fresh cracked pepper with sweet ripe blackberry, plums and mulberries, with hints of chocolate and dusty oak.
The palate is full bodied with lovely plum and blackberry following through from the nose. This wine is displaying quite amazing intensity of fruit. The fine tannins draw the flavors across the palate creating an incredible crescendo of flavors which remain in your mouth minutes after drinking.
This is an immaculately structured and seamless wine, one of the best produced at Leeuwin Estate.
Australian Wine Companion - "A fragrant and vibrant wine, with pronounced cool climate characteristics; spicy, savoury nuances encircle the core of red cherry and plum fruit; very good handling of tannin and oak. Open-fermented, 20% whole bunches. Screwcap."
International Wine Cellar - "Glass-staining ruby. Sexy red berry compote and flowers on the nose, with complicating notes of dried herbs and black pepper. Silky in texture and refreshingly brisk, offering lively raspberry and blackberry flavors that gain power with air. Shows no rough edges and finishes with resonating spiciness and lingering floral and herbal notes. This is complex enough to drink now but there's no hurry."
Wine Enthusiast - "In keeping with its Western Australian origins, this is a medium-bodied Shiraz, without the overbearing ripeness found from some other regions. Black cherry fruit is accented by hints of hints of mint or eucalyptus, while the tannins are silky and fine. Drink it now and over the next several years."
Wine & Spirits - "2007 Margaret River Art Series Shiraz A velvety Aussie shiraz, this wine cuts its unctuous richness with subtle spice and mineral acidity. It hints at the black-pepper drive syrah often gains in the Northern Rhône. Bottle age should bring that pepper and minerality to the fore."

Leeuwin Estate Winery
After an extensive search in 1972 to identify the most suitable Australian area for the production of premium varietal wines, Robert Mondavi singled out a small plot of land in the Margaret River region. At the time a cattle farm, Leeuwin Esate evolved under the direction of owners Denis and Tricia Horgan, with Mondavi acting as a consultant and mentor. The initial vineyards were planted by hand over a five year period from 1975, with the state-of-the-art winery opened in 1978. In 1979, Leeuwin Estate had their first commercial vintage. Today, Leeuwin Estate maintains a team of highly-skilled and dedicated winemakers, under the direction of two generations of the founding family, exporting to over 30 countries. About AustraliaLike the United States, which is about the same size, Australia's winemaking regions are huddled into one or two pockets of the country. The state of South Australia, which produces about 60% of the country's wine, also has the most wineries and sub-regions, including McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, Coonawarra and Barossa Valley. New South Wales is home to the Hunter Valley, while the smaller, southern state of Victoria is best known for theYarra Valley. Head way west to the very large state of Western Australia and you'll find the tiny region of Margaret River at the southern tip.
