Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2000
Cabernet Sauvignon
from Margaret River, Australia
winemaker's notes:
Varieties: 85.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Malbec, 3.5% Petit Verdot
A Margaret River powerhouse, this Cabernet is made to be long lived with ample
fruit and a sturdy frame. Oft described as "Bordeaux-like", the core of its fruit comes
from 25-year-old vines grown in well-drained, gravelly, granite-derived soils.
The Art Series represents Leeuwin's finest wines from each vintage. The
winemakers have always selected the optimum fruit, transforming it into Leeuwin's
highest quality wines for this label. They are identified with paintings
commissioned from leading contemporary Australian artists.
Medium ruby in color. This wine exhibits classic Cabernet flavors of cassis and
red currants intermingled with plums and chocolate. A complex wine displaying
well integrated components. Sweet fruit of rich, ripe red currant is
complemented by soft fine-grained tannin and creamy French oak. A wine of
medium weight that will improve in the medium term. Will pair well with red
beef or cheddar cheeses.
"Medium red. Lively aromas of raspberry, currant and chocolate. Sweet, dense and deep, with vibrant raspberry and currant flavors sweetened by subtle oakiness. A full, rich wine with nicely integrated acidity. Finishes long and subtle, with very fine tannins, a suggestion of chocolatey oak, and lingering sweet fruit. A very good showing."
