red wine style:
Light & Fruity Smooth & Supple Earthy & Spicy Big & Bold
winemaker's notes:

Pure, rich and very elegant; a powerhouse of lush black fruit, silky cocoa, black spice and cream, wrapped around blackberry, cherry and ripe plum. Layered and complex with a nose to linger over, a finish that never ends. Sweet anise, hints of tobacco, black chocolate, more cherries and exotic spices, layers of jam. This wine will stand and perform anytime you think of a Cabernet and want something just a little more exotic. Born at the base of the Andes and fed by the purest spring waters…I love this wine.

critical acclaim:

"Dense purple-colored with notes of blackberry, earth, roasted meats, and a hint of barbecue spice, this wine exhibits great fruit, delicious, full-bodied texture, silky tannins, and a long finish. It does taste more like a $30-50 bottle of Malbec than one that can be purchased for $15. It should drink nicely for at least 2-3 years. "

if your read the first review, it is stated that this red is not "fruit bomb". Pay no attention to this. It is also stated that this red wine is their second red wine ever. So this show's nothing but inexperience. This wine has plenty of dark berry traits along with a little earthiness to it. It goes great with fillet mignon wrapped in bacon and some grilled asparagus. Great wine for the price. pretty much a crowd pleaser.
rating (9/29/2010):
This is my second red wine. So far I am not a big red wine fan. They are all to dry and not quite fruit forward enough for me. Even though this is called a "fruit bomb". The description is way more drastic than the actual flavor. I would not describe it as a "fruit bomb" but more like a red wine that isn't so dry as to feel like you are drinking cotton swabs. Which IMO most reds are that dry. I know people worship reds. But my beginners palate does not appreciate them yet. This is no exception. I thought it would be way more fruit forward than it was since it was a "fruit bomb". Bzzzt wrong! BTW, "fruit bomb" is a dumb moniker and does not describe the fruitiness of the wine at all. Right out of bottle you get the typical nose for reds, dark fruit, cherries, raspberry jam, a hint of vanilla, plenty of spice. On the palate, you do get tastes of fruit jam but not overwhelming like people suggest. Also black current, blackberries, black cherry, boysenberry, dark fruits come to mind on the palate. Perhaps a very, very, subtle hint of tartness. Like perhaps from black cherries? Barely noticeable unless you close your eyes and think about it. Overall, while my unrefined palate is not a fan of reds, yet, this Malbec is very nice. It's not super dry like most reds and it isn't a super sweet fruit bomb like some suggest. It's a nice well balanced red that I would recommend to anyone, who like me is not a fan of reds, it is very palatable and enjoyable. I do recommend letting it breathe for 20-30 minutes at least. It opens up nicely over time.
