Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 14.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Flavors and aromas which are synonymous with Alexander Valley Cabernet such as cedar, tobacco, olive, licorice, cocoa, cassis and raspberry are all unveiled with this 2006 Lake Sonoma Winery release. Solid and lengthy tannins with balanced acid support and provide structure for complexity and aging.

This Alexander Valley Cabernet's full-bodied flavor pairs superbly with all grilled meats and roasts.

Critical Acclaim

"A beautiful Cabernet, dry and smooth in tannins, offering polished flavors of blackberries, currants, herbs and cedar. Really outstanding and classy."

This wine seemed a little harsh. I think it will really mellow out with age. However, I'm 74 and I'm not aging anything very long.

I found this wine to be very smooth, excellent wine with a good finish. I did not taste a lot of tannin. I felt it contained moderate berry, smoky or woody accents. It was good with red meat, salad or by itself. We have ordered more of this item. I did not experience a hangover with this red wine.

This is a really good cab, but you need to use a wine aerator or let it breathe at least 15 minutes, or both!

Medium nose. Tart plums; a bit rough on the palate, but ultimately rounds out on the finish. I was disappointed given the WS review. This is nice, but nothing special.

The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the...

Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
