winemaker's notes:

The 1995 vintage Krug shows today its immense potential, with a smoky, lemony fruit character and hints of brioche, mineral, ripe white fruits and honey. On the palate the wine is majesterial and full, while retaining crisp acidity and vibrant length. A very rich and luxurious Krug.

Cellar Notes
Vintage Krug is one of the most long-lived wines from the Champagne region, with bottles still lively and fresh after 80 years of aging – although not that many wine lovers have the patience to age their Krug for this amount of time. Like all Champagne, Krug is released when it is ready to be drunk, but Krug 1995 will definitely reward at least 10 – 15 years of cellaring before consumption.

Characteristics of the blend
As many as 20 different lots of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay from a variety of sources are blended together to form Vintage Krug. The majority of the grapes come from the finest vineyards in Le Mesnil, Aÿ, Trépail, and Ambonnay.

This wine is not the most typical of the Krug style, but reflects instead the particularity of the vintage. It is only made in exceptional years, and is only produced when there is a sufficient difference between the vintage wine and the Grande Cuvee.

critical acclaim:

"A mature, honeyed nose shows how rich and open this beautiful wine is. It is rich and toasty, with layers of citrus and very ripe, almost honeyed, fruit. It is lively and fresh, with excellent structure. Ready to drink."

Wine Enthusiast

"A very youthful '95. Delicate. Intense aromas of ginger, citrus, candied berry and multigrain bread turn to honey, roasted almonds and graphite on the palate. It's all underscored by a precise structure and creamy texture. Its structure keeps it persistent through the long finish. A picture of precision and intensity. Drink now through 2025."

98 Points

Wine Spectator

"Light yellow. Rich and powerful, with leesy pear and white truffle aromas accented by gentle notes of white pepper and cinnamon. Extremely powerful Krug, with rich orchard fruit flavors, a velvety texture and warm, rich, inviting notes of brioche and creme brulee Finishes with intense pear and peach flavors and lingering notes of smoke, iodine and toffee. One of the most concentrated Champagnes I tried this year."

  1995 Krug, a champagne for the ages - 4/23/2009
I would buy this wine again
Bold and crisp with the distinctive flavor you expect from great champagne. Drank it with Cristal 2003 and 2000 at my wedding. The 1995 Krug is a little bit dryer and more crisp than the Cristal, and exceptionally flavorful.

Kosher wine
Kosher
A Kosher wine begins like every other - as grapes on a vine. Once they reach the winery for crushing, the wine is under strict rabbinal supervision.
Screw Cap wine
Screw Cap
Many studies report and winemakers agree that screw caps protect wine better and preserve its flavor more effectively than cork. More importantly, screw caps eliminate cork taint caused by TCA, a compound which develops in a small percentage of corks and ruins the taste of wine.
Green wine
Green Wines
Wines that use sustainable, organic and/or biodynamic practices in the vineyard and/or winemaking process. We rely on a number of U.S. and International certifications to qualify wines "green."

These wines will improve from additional bottle age, when properly stored, and may show the greatest potential to increase in value.

These wines are made in limited quantities and are typically produced from single vineyard sources or made by small, artisanal wineries. While the winery may produce larger quantities, we limit wines with this designation to a 1,000 case production.
