winemaker's notes:

"Krug Grande Cuvée is as a symphony, a composition where the instruments all play together, complementing each other in total harmony."
-Henri Krug.

The flagship of the house, Grande Cuvée is imposing in character from the first moment in the glass. The "birth" of Krug Grande Cuvée, through its first fermentation exclusively in small oak casks, ensures the unique personality and dimension that is the Krug Style. The composition of the "cuvée" is a stunning mosaic of flavors where the three champagne grapes, 20-25 growths and 6-10 different years, combine to give Krug Grande Cuvée its complexity, elegance and consistency year after year, blend after blend.

To maintain this consistency, Krug reserves a large selection of unblended still wines from previous vintages blending them with the youngest crop to create a fully balanced taste. These "reserve" wines may represent between a third and a half of the cuvée.

The bouquet is wonderfully creamy, leading to magical combination of weight and balance on the palate. The long, lingering finish is both nutty and toasty, ending with a final flourish of freshness, leaving one longing for more.

critical acclaim:

"Vibrant and beautifully fresh, this wine evolves in the glass as it yields layers of toast, lime, stone and honey-like the vibrating scent of the hive. The multivintage blend creates multidimensional complexity, with the broad richness of older reserves and the breezier, tart red apple lift of younger wines. Long-time Krugistes may find this wine a little less intense, a little less "symphonic," as Henri Krug has described the blend. But it is no less beautiful, and equally hard to resist."

Wine & Spirits

"Very fine mousse Sweetly spicy, soil-inflected aromas of nutmeg, nut oil, toasted biscuit, smoke and minerals, with the ineffable yeast autolysis character of the greatest Champagnes. Huge, rich and ripe; combines an almost exotic character with great nervosite . Wonderfully full and thick but with vibrant, perfectly integrated acidity. Urgent yet suave. The finishing flavors of toasted bread, nuts, spices and orange zest go on and on. "

International Wine Cellar

"One whiff and you know this is serious stuff. The aromas of baking brioche, coconut, candied citrus and leather pick up roasted coffee and grilled nuts on the palate, permeating the senses. Profound depth and complexity, offering a unique Champagne experience. Drink now through 2006. 40,000 cases made."

Wine Spectator

"Non-vintaged though it may be, this wine has in the past shown as one of the older cuvees in our tastings, and so again does it do so here. This time, as one expects of Krug, the aged, toasty, minerally character is accompanied by bright, acid-braced, still evident fruit. One might quibble about a bit of chalkiness in the finish. "

Connoisseurs' Guide

"Resplendent in its new shiny gold label, Krug is a majestic Champagne. Its velvet texture, dominated by mature flavors, is toasty and rich, dense and complex. In the mouth, its beautiful roasted almond, spice and ripe pears all balance impressively. Could the wine be getting even better? No question—this is still one of the greatest nonvintage Champagnes."

I would buy this wine again
Fresh, subtle citrus & fruit nose w/ fresh grape, citrus & bread dough flavor. Marvelous, lingering taste that is full & sweet, but not too sweet, on the lips. A tiny pepper & ginger aftertaste teases you for minutes afterwards. You will read many glowing reviews of this wine but none say it better than the one that states "...what God gives his angels when they have been especially good." Awesome!

Kosher
A Kosher wine begins like every other - as grapes on a vine. Once they reach the winery for crushing, the wine is under strict rabbinal supervision.
Screw Cap wine
Screw Cap
Many studies report and winemakers agree that screw caps protect wine better and preserve its flavor more effectively than cork. More importantly, screw caps eliminate cork taint caused by TCA, a compound which develops in a small percentage of corks and ruins the taste of wine.
