Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
A wine of depth and elegance, often touched with high pitched tones of iodine, and an oyster shell-like minerality.
"The light gold-hued 2004 Chardonnay Hudson E-Block (500 cases from the famed E-Block made famous by Helen Turley) possesses lively acidity, gorgeous depth as well as richness, and a full-bodied, smoky, tropical fruit-filled (especially pineapple) personality. The wood component is well-integrated, and the alcohol content is 14.5%.

"Light gold. Expansive, highly complex aromas of orange, pear, quince, sweet butter, marzipan and iodine reminded me of a really great Meursault. Intense spice- and mineral-accented citrus flavors, with an exotic beeswax note adding depth. Focused and pure on the finish, which has outstanding concentration and length. The only thing that could chase this off my palate was the next wine."

Founded in 1978, Kistler Vineyards is a small, family-owned and operated winery specializing in the production of Burgundian style Chardonnay and limited amounts of Pinot Noir. Grapes are estate grown and purchased from vineyards in Sonoma County. In 1992, Kistler Vineyards moved all production to its Vine Hill Road Vineyard in the Russian River Valley.
