King Estate Pinot Gris 1997
Pinot Gris/Grigio
from Willamette Valley, Oregon
winemaker's notes:
This beautiful, pale platinum Pinot Gris displays rich aromas of melon, peach, and passion fruit accented by hints of guava and floral spice. Flavors of melon, nectarine, banana, and tropical fruits abound throughout, with a note of anise mid-palate. Bright and crisp, this wine has excellent acid balance and provides a soft, lingering finish.

A Customer - Mankato, MN
A deceptive wine. Comes on with an expanse of fruit in the nose, somewhat reminiscent of fresh roses. But the flavors are dry. I wasn't sure I liked it till I tried it with a bowl of chicken broth and asparagus soup--it fit splendidly! (Asparagus is a tough match for almost any wine.) I'd be curious to see how this Pinot Gris tastes in another 2 to 3 years when it will have matured from being a precocious teenager to a more serious adult.
