Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2007 Killerman's Run Shiraz shows a nose of ripe, bold Shiraz fruits and rich mocha notes supported by the French and American oak. A sweet mid palate of plums and blackberries, soft ripe, tannins and depth of character create a wine with both power and finesse that showcases the appeal of Australian Shiraz - richly fruit driven, balanced and powerful.

Critical Acclaim

"Vibrant hue; blackberry, ironstone and tar on the bouquet, with shades of lighter red fruit; thickly textured, amply supported by lively acidity and plentiful tannin; fruitful long and harmonious. Great value."

Learn About South Australia

The majority of wines from Australia come from this state. Home to the red wine regions of McLaren Vale, Coonawarra and Barossa Valley, South Australia produces some of the finest red wines of the country, and some say in the world. White wines gain their reputation from the distinctive Rieslings of Clare Valley.

Learn About Syrah/Shiraz

The home base of Syrah is the Northern Rhone, where it creates the exclusive wines of Hermitage and Cote Rotie. On the less pricy side, the Rhone makes Syrah-based wines in Crozes...
