Alcohol By Volume: 14.7%
Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
The 2008 Covenant is bright red in color with youthful crimson hues. The nose exudes notes of
licorice, coffee grinds and savory, black olives married with spicy French oak char. Dark,
spicy aromas carry over impressively to the palate. Its seamless mouthfeel and textural
qualities combine seductively with the oak to provide a lingering, fine grained finish.
"Strong colour; the bouquet is flush with black fruits, spice, licorice and oak, the full-bodied palate picking up the theme and amplifying its volume; the wine has good tannins, and demands time to slim down.
Australian Wine Companion
"This plush, fruit-driven style of Shiraz displays aromas that resemble a cross between Nilla Wafers and graham crackers spread with berry preserves. The flavors follow along similar lines, underscored by hints of chocolate and coffee on the lingering finish. Editors' Choice."
"Glass-staining purple. Violet, blueberry and licorice on the aromatic nose. Lush and sweet on the palate, with oak-spiced flavors of black and blue fruits, candied flowers and mocha. The finish is smooth and broad, with supple tannins and very good, sappy persistence. Nicely balanced for a big wine."
International Wine Cellar
"Plush, generous and well-focused, with fresh-tasting cherry and pomegranate flavors that meld nicely with mineral and white pepper notes, lingering against refined tannins. Drink now through 2018. 1,500 cases imported."
