Kay Brothers Amery Shiraz 2004
Syrah/Shiraz
from McLaren Vale, Australia
winemaker's notes:
This dense purple-colored Shiraz is full-bodied with powerful lifted aromas, well-integrated oak, and rich ripe berry fruit flavors. It is a style that can be enjoyed as a relatively young wine or bottle aged to develop classic regional characters and added complexity - recommended cellaring time 6-8 years in ideal storage conditions.
The ‘Amery' property in McLaren Vale, South Australia was purchased in 1891 by brothers Herbert and Frederick Kay. To this day, the vineyard and winery is run by family members: Herbert's son Cuthbert took over management in 1948, and was succeeded in turn by his son Colin Kay. The Kay's Amery Shiraz vineyard is 30 years old.
"Deep ruby. Powerful red and dark berry aromas display liqueur-like power and depth, with suave vanilla, cola, tobacco and graphite qualities adding complexity. Juicy black raspberry and cherry-cola flavors are underscored by smoky minerals and framed by velvety tannins. Finishes broad and sweet, with excellent cut and sappy persistence."

"Produced from 34 year old vines, the dense ruby/purple-tinged 2004 Shiraz Amery offers up dusty, loamy earth, black fruit, spicy oak, and roasted meat and herb like aromas. This beautiful, value priced Shiraz should evolve for a decade." Robert Parker's
