winemaker's notes:

TASTING NOTE BY VÉRONIQUE BOSS-DROUHIN
A revelation and a true wonder! The ruby red colour is magnificent and takes on a deeper hue with age. The aromas are intense and evoke raspberry and wild cherry, becoming more complex with age: undergrowth, truffle, candied fruit. A sublime structure, with refined tannins. It is a perfect example of this ideal of elegance according to Drouhin. A remarkable balance and a lingering persistence of flavors on the palate. It is a wine that always leaves the greatest impression.

alcohol by volume: 13.5%
critical acclaim:

"Firmly tannic, showing rich black fruits and sweet juicy berry flavors, along with a dry core of structure that promises aging. A powerful wine, it has weight as well as delicious final acidity."

Wine Enthusiast

"Here the nose is notably earthy yet retains a certain elegance as the ripe red pinot fruit offers up nuances of underbrush, spice and plum that merge into very fresh, textured and impressively deep flavors that are mouth coating, serious and delicious, indeed so much so that this carries only a modest amount of its usual youthful austerity."

"This powerful red is also very rigid and stern, following up its red cherry, raspberry and spice flavors with stiff tannins. Seems very well-proportioned, just needs time to soften. The finish is long and expansive. Best from 2014 through 2025."

Wine Spectator

"Full red. Complex, slightly high-toned nose melds redcurrant, black cherry, licorice, smoke and leather; this smells ripe! Fat and sweet in the mouth, with more breadth but a bit less precision than the Petits Monts. Shows the medicinal menthol austerity of classic young Clos Vougeot, with hints of herbs and pepper. For all its texture, this is austere today. Virtually, all of Drouhin's grand crus were vinified with 15% to 25% of their stems in '07, noted winemaker Jerome Faure-Brac."
