Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.
Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.
Alcohol By Volume: 14.4%
Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
Made from what is arguably Washington State's best vineyard for the variety, the Champoux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a sleek and powerful wine. Rich and concentrated, the nose is loaded with cassis and black cherry, while the palate is brimming with supple tannins and tremendous length.
"Firm in texture, lithe in structure, with tightly packed currant, boysenberry and spice flavors, hinting at sage as the finish lingers. Drink now through 2018."
"The purple-colored 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Champoux Vineyard is a step up, not surprising given this vineyard’s track record. Exotic spices, incense, violets, earthy minerals, black currant, and blackberry aromas inform the nose of a rich, plush, dense offering with enough fine-grained tannin to evolve for another 3-4 years. It is likely to see its 20th birthday in fine form. "
The Wine Advocate
"Bright red-ruby. Knockout nose features aromas of cassis, blackberry, cocoa powder, licorice and flowers. Suave and seamless, showing an old-viney creaminess complicated by sexy Taransaud spice notes. Conveys an impression of restrained sweetness thanks to its bright acidity. Very concentrated, sappy and long. Lay this one down.
