Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Vibrant, deep ruby red in color. On the nose, concentrated aromas of blackberries and plums accompanied by distinctive eucalyptus, clove and spicy black pepper, supported by integrated charry vanilla oak. Full-bodied, with ripe plum and dark berry flavours providing richly focused fruit sweetness on the mid palate. More savoury nuances of black olives and dried herbs evolve with time in the glass. The luscious fruit textures are supported by well integrated and balanced oak tannins. A soundly structured wine, well balanced with a long, persistent finish.

Pairs well with casseroles of game, beef or veal.

Critical Acclaim

"The qualitative equal of the excellent 2002, the 2005 Centenary Hill is a big, rich wine that shows just a bit of warmth to its ripe black cherry flavors. Pepper and spice notes add interest, while the soft, dusty-textured tannins give this wine an easy approachability not seen in older vintages. Drink now–2018."
91 Points

"Dark and juicy, with a metallic edge to the rhubarb and spice flavors, turning toward plum and soy sauce on the long, expressive finish."
