Alcohol By Volume: 12.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Climatic conditions were a carbon-copy of the excellent 2007 vintage.

Delicate, subtle and well built, it makes an excellent apéritif because, although nicely rounded, it is also refreshing. The perfect all-purpose dry white wine.

Food Match: sushi, shellfish, fish, Asian cuisine.

Critical Acclaim

"The Hugel 2009 Pinot Blanc Les Amours seems to offer a memory of its malic acid by way of tart apple skin, accompanied by apple pit and salt accents that make for a piquant as well as invigorating finish. I find the relative understatement and leanness of this Auxerrois–Pinot Blanc blend quite handsome, accompanied as it is by ample refreshment and some intriguing mineral nuances. Plan on enjoying it over the next couple of years. "
87 Points

"Pale color. Expressive aromas of peach, fresh apricot, smoke and butter, plus a high note of brown spices. Juicy, leanish and quite dry, with a floral element and bright acidity contributing to the impression of cut. No shortage of texture here. Finishes dry and persistent. (The juicy but very tight, lemony 2008 showed strong but slightly spiky acidity.)"

Learn About Hugel Map ItMap It

In the cellars, the oldest of which dates back to 1551, can be seen rows of oak wine casks, over one hundred years old, crafted by the forefathers of the present generation of Hugels now running the company. Near them is the oldest cask in the world still in use: the Sainte Caterine, which has a capacity of 8,800 litres. It was built in 1715, the year in which Louis XIV died. The...

Learn About Alsace

Seventy miles long and two miles wide, Alsace is a beautiful, picturesque region situated along the border of France and Germany, nestled between the Voges Mountains and the Rhine River. These landmarks give Alsace an ideal climate for the white grapes that have become the mainstays of the region. Pinot Noir is also grown, with plantings of the grape increasing with consumer...

Learn About Pinot Blanc

Pinot Blanc(pee-no blahnk) Pretty and Simple A mutation of the Pinot family, Pinot Blanc was once commonly mistaken for Chardonnay - it looks quite similar on the vine. But true Pinot Blanc lacks most Chardonnay characteristics. The grape is most at home in Alsace, where it is used both in blends as well as a sole varietal. It's also found in Italy...
