red wine style:
Light & Fruity Smooth & Supple Earthy & Spicy Big & Bold
winemaker's notes:

Very deep crimson in color. Sweet lifted aromas of blackberries, plums, cassis and mulberries with hints of anise, cedar and vanilla. Ripe sweet blackberry fruits on the lush, layered palate; complex, with velvety tannins, great concentration long and silky.

alcohol by volume: 14.5%
critical acclaim:

"The Eden Valley gives focus and structure; a cascade of predominantly red fruits including cherry and raspberry, but resting on a firm foundation. Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot."

Australian Wine Companion

"Saturated red color. Black raspberry, boysenberry, cherry-cola and Asian spices on the nose, with gentle oak spiciness adding further complexity. Plump and juicy, offering luscious dark berry, cherry-vanilla flavors and succulent herb flavors, with silky tannins providing frame. Firm minerality lends focus to an impressively long, juicy finish, which leaves anise and baking spices behind. Suave and sweet, with the balance to age but the sex-appeal to drink now."

International Wine Cellar

"This blend of 63% Shiraz, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc starts off with herbal, smoky, green-peppercorn aromas, but really rounds into shape on the palate, where it offers blueberry fruit and hints of maple syrup and vanilla. It’s full-bodied and lush in texture, suggesting early maturation. Drink now–2013. "

rating (6/15/2011):

I tried this wine in Australia in 2003 and I brought back several bottles. This has become my favorate red wine. I still have a couple bottles of the 2001 vintage that I love. I haven't tried the 2005 vintage, since I am cellaring it for special occations in the future. You can't go wrong with this Henschke red !
