Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

100% Chardonnay, mostly from the vineyards of Mesnil sur Oger, Vertus, Chouilly and Trépail. 38% of the cuvee is from reserve wines.

"The blanc de blancs from Henriot has some fine, toasty, aged character. This is a rich, but still vibrantly fruity wine that shows some baked apple and pink grapefruit but also some maturity. A finely made wine, illustrating the benefits of some bottle age."

"Light gold. Smoky pear and peach on the nose, with subtle anise and grain qualities adding complexity. More plump than usual for this cuvee, offering ripe but focused orchard fruit and tangerine flavors of excellent depth. Finishes sappy and impressively long."

Critical Acclaim

"This is great Champagne, in the bottle-aged Henriot style. It’s a classic Chardonnay, ripe, creamy, packed with yellow fruits, and finely balanced with a great waft of toast. A high percentage of older vintages in the blend gives this wine richness, maturity, without ever losing its crisp edge."
93 Points

"A pretty and perfumed nose of high-toned citrus, floral and subtle brioche aromas leads to detailed, crisp and equally pretty flavors that are underpinned by firm effervescence and fine finishing depth on the notably dry backend. This is really quite good and I am pleased to see that the quality has not wavered since my review of this cuvée two years ago. Excellent quality in an understated style plus it will repay aging."
92 Points

"Round and fruity, in a medium-bodied style, with peach, ginger and honey flavors. There's a graphite edge, and the acidity keeps this lively and focused. Drink now."
90 Points

"Light, bright yellow. High-pitched aromas of lime, orange zest and green apple, with notes of dried rose, honeysuckle and a hint of smoky lees. Lively and precise but also richer than the straight Souverain Brut. Offers smoky citrus and orchard fruit flavors that are underscored by tangy minerality. The smoky note lingers on a long, sappy and sharply focused finish, which features a hint of vanilla."
90 Points

"Delicate floral scents highlight the rich flavors of pear and cream. It's supple in the middle, clean and elegant in the end. For roast sea bass with lemongrass and ginger."

Learn About Champagne

Champagne is both a region and a method. The wines come from the northernmost vineyards in France and the name conjures an image like no other can. An 18th Century Benedictine monk named Dom Perignon is said to be the first to blend both varietals and vintages, making good wines not only great, but also special and unique to their winemaker. Today, nearly 75% of Champagne...
