Complex aromas of ripe cherries, violets and cedar are followed by flavors of perfectly ripe, firm black cherries and mixed red and black berries. Allspice and coffee notes complement a long, multi-faceted finish in this "True Sonoma Coast" Pinot Noir.

Broad, deep, rich, and impressively endowed, it should drink well for 5-8 years."

Hartford Court Winery
Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1993 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford's appreciation for the wines, the people, and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast.
Making delicious wines of high personality is directly related to the difficult locations of the Hartford family's vineyard sources, the limited production of their bottlings and the varietals they use. "Character through adversity" is an expression that the Hartford family believes to apply to both people and grapevines, and they feel that surviving adversity builds character, and personality, in both.
The Hartford Family makes wines under two marks, one of which is Hartford Court. Hartford Court bottlings are small lots of high-personality single vineyard Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays that express the distinctive qualities inherent in each vineyard's terroir - the interplay of soil, slope, exposure and climate. Twice as large as Napa in size, Sonoma County only makes about a half the amount of wine as her northeasterly neighbor. But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the Joneses, or Napa-ites if you will. Grape varieties are more varied here, from Pinot Noir and Zinfandel to Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
Notable FactsThe largest sub-AVAs of Sonoma include Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley and Sonoma Valley. Each sub-AVA, with its own micro-climate, is unique in its grape varieties and styles of wine. Dry Creek makes a mean Zinfandel while Russian River produces stand up Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Alexander Valley makes some of the better Cabernet Sauvignons in the county and Sonoma Valley creates excellent wines from all the above varieties. Other grapes found throughout Sonoma include Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Syrah.

Down south, Santa Barbara's Santa Maria Valley is well-known for its Rhône blends, as well as cool-climate varieties like Pinot and Chardonnay. The Central Coast, the largest California AVA, has many different microclimates that lead to a wide range of wines with many sub-AVAs.

Bold for a pinot. Black cherry, berries, little spicy, little sweet but not too much, taste some alcohol burn when it warms up gets more noticeable. Great when decanted for an hour or so, much more than that the burn kicks in. Overall good but There are better options in this price range.45/11/201254/28/2012

An outstanding wine! Much more complex than most Pinots and pairs well with foods you would normally reach for a Cab. This is an excellent Pinot Noir. I believe this vintage to be underrated. At this price, it is well worth it to purchase a case, perhaps more. The wine initially presents with ruby and rose hughes. The aromas are light and fresh with hints of fresh peaches, plums, blueberries, raisins, strawberries and baby's breath. The delicate flavors of this vintage are elegant yet, complex with notes of blueberries, fresh spring rain, plums, pears, birch and soft spices. The remarkable finish is smooth and long lasting that carries its fruit flavors incredibly well. A superbly crafted wine that is well balanced. Drink now through 2015. 97 pts.44/16/201243/31/2012
