Crozes Hermitage is the largest of the appellations of the Northern Rhône, comprising just over 2500 acres planted to Syrah for red wine and Marsanne and Roussanne for white. The vineyards are largely on the plain, producing reasonably priced wines, but there are some excellent hillside vineyards which provide concentrated, long-lived wines. In general, the red wines have forthright Syrah flavors, spicy and persistent, with satisfying vigor and intensity of flavor in an appealingly rustic style.

"Dark ruby. A highly fragrant bouquet displays cherry, dark berries and an exotic pit fruit quality. Juicy, focused and mineral-driven, offering intense bitter cherry and fruitcake flavors and firm acidity on the back end. Becomes spicier with air and finishes on a sappy dark berry note, with very good, peppery persistence."
