47.6 % Cabernet Sauvignon; 47.6 % Merlot; and 4.8% Syrah- all Estate grapes. Dark Ruby in color, this wine displays multiple aromas of cassis, spice, cocoa powder, dark berries and a hint of coffee. Lush, jammy, blackberry fruitiness is noticed immediately. This combines with vanilla, cranberry and cherry flavors. The tannins are fine grained, giving this wine a supple, elegant mouth-feel. A lingering finish of black cherry, toasted, sweet oak and a hint of coconut make this wine refined and generous.
All of the wine was aged in small oak barrels, the majority from French forests, for 18 months. The best wines of the vintage were blended and placed back into French oak barrels for an additional 22 months of aging.
"Tradition is Gordon Brothers’ top red, a blend of Merlot and Cabernet from the estate vineyard’s best vines. It is given extra cellar time, which gives the sweet cherry fruit flavors the opportunity to meld, while smoothing the rougher, somewhat green tannins. This is a wine that could certainly be cellared for another five or six years; it is structured like a Bordeaux, and does not try to hide its earthy, herbal side. Nor should it; the stuffing is there for a beautiful wine to emerge in another half decade or so."
