Not only is Confluence the warmest vineyard in our Estate portfolio, it is also one of the most diverse, featuring both hillside and valley floor plantings. This wine offers a lush, layered and enticing expression of the vibrant red-fruit flavors that have come to define Confluence Vineyard. It begins with a highly aromatic nose featuring an array of spice elements alongside plum, raspberry, vanilla, oak and a hint of mint. The red fruit continues on the palate with beautifully extracted cranberry compote, red loganberry and raspberry flavors supported by broad, refined tannins that conclude in a long, sumptuous finish.
In 2006 the weather cooperated—in fact, it was ideal. Temperatures remained mild, allowing us to handpick each block based on ripeness and flavors, and extending the harvest over seven weeks, commencing at Confluence Vineyard on September 7 and culminating with The Narrows Vineyard on October 28. Winemaker Zach Rasmuson describes the fruit quality from the 2006 vintage as impressive: "the wines are full, well-extracted, and tasty."

In 1997, Goldeneye harvested its first grapes, a modest seven tons of estate fruit, yielding 375 cases of wine. After a decade of research, planning and experimentation, Goldeneye's inaugural vintage was announced in March of 2000. By focusing on the careful cultivation of its estate vineyards, Goldeneye has been able to grow, while still remaining true to its philosophy of being a small, quality-driven winery.

Twice as large as Napa in size, Sonoma County only makes about half as much wine as its northeasterly neighbor. Because of its vast size, however, Sonoma is able to achieve far more diversity within its borders, which include sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid-back and down-to-earth, but the wines are serious and well-made, ranging in style from subtle and elegant to rich and powerful. Grape varieties are more varied here, from Pinot Noir and Zinfandel to Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
Notable FactsThe largest sub-AVAs of Sonoma include Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley and Sonoma Valley. Each sub-AVA, with its own micro-climate, is unique in its grape varieties and styles of wine. Dry Creek makes a mean Zinfandel while Russian River produces stand up Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Alexander Valley makes some of the better Cabernet Sauvignons in the county and Sonoma Valley creates excellent wines from all the above varieties. Other grapes found throughout Sonoma include Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Syrah.
