Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Made from 100% Chardonnay, this medium bodied sparkling wine comes alive with crisp flavors of green apple, citrus, and Asian pear. Notes of toast and vanilla result in a clean finish on this exceptional sparkler.

An abundant mousse and enticing aromas of delicate orange blossoms, ripe Graventstein apple, vanilla and brioche announce this elegant Blanc de Blancs. Its full, creamy entry on the palate reveals complex flavors of ripe pear, lemon meringue and hints of white chocolate along with mineral notes that persist on a fresh, lasting, precisely balanced finish.

Critical Acclaim

"A lovely Blanc de Blancs, bright and satisfying in lime, vanilla and toast flavors, with the yeasty complexity of a fine sparkling wine. Gains extra points for the smooth quality of the bubbles. "
90 Points

"A scent of mild toasted wheat carries into the bubbly foam of this wine. The clean apple flavors have some delicacy, finishing tight, simple and fine. Serve it with pan-roasted sand dabs or other mild white fish."

Have been drinking this vintage since it's release. Crisp, great bubbles with nice nose of vanilla and green apples, light an the palate but has a nice rich almost creamy finish. That's what I like in a sparkler. Have visited this winery and always impressed with their love of the product; reflected in what they produce. Also a big fan of the Oudinot Brute NV and this wine compares very favorably at $20-$25 less.

Learn About Gloria Ferrer Map ItMap It

Gloria Ferrer is the offspring of a powerful parent: Freixenet of Spain, the world's largest producer of sparkling wine. Drawn to the promise of California, Freixenet established a California winery, naming it after the wife of Freixenet's president. The winery in Carneros is one of the best stops in all of Wine Country. Visit the aging caves carved in the hillside and enjoy the sun-splashed deck while noshing on roasted almonds and sipping bubbly. Wines produced are Blanc de Noir, Brut, Brut Rose, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Rose.

Learn About Sonoma County

Twice as large as Napa in size, Sonoma County only makes about a half the amount of wine as her northeasterly neighbor. But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the...

Learn About Vintage

Vintage Champagne and Sparkling Wines Vintage Champagne is made in particularly good years with optimum weather and the best grape selection. Some houses, like Dom Perignon, only make vintage Champagne, so they do not produce a wine every year and have no non-vintage bottlings. What makes vintage Champagne better? Well, status for one - many vintage Champagnes are...
