ratings pedigree (past vintages):
winemaker's notes:
This is Glen Carlou's signature red wine. Rich ruby red in color this wine has aromas of red cherry with hints of young black fruits and oak. Flavors of black cured cherries, with layers of dark chocolate and tobacco with spice. The tannins are beautifully proportioned with mild toasted almond.

critical acclaim:
"The most recent release is the 2008 Grand Classique, a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Malbec, 14% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc, and it is the first vintage that has seen 18 rather than 24 months of oak (40% new). The nose is refined and elegant with blackberry, cedar and a touch of cigar box whilst the palate is medium-bodied with harmonious blackberry, wild strawberry and tart red cherries. Understated and very well balanced, this is a succinct expression of South African Cabernet. Drink now-2017. "

The Wine Advocate
"This blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Malbec, 14% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc offers a minty character that prevails among the intense black plum and berry aromas and flavors. Well-integrated, with a decadent crushed velvet texture and a long oak-kissed finish reminiscent of dark chocolate-covered cherries. Editor's Choice "

Fruit forward with lots of dark berries primary cherries and blueberries. The fruit overlays tobacco and oak. This sine is a steal at $15.

This reminds me more of a beaujolais than a bordeaux. Still it is well executed and enjoyable. Just much lighter and with less body than I expected. I would buy it again for a wam summer day -- perhaps it was made with that in mind in south africa.
One of my favorites for occasional drinking. Very nice wine with a great price.
Recommend aerating this. It is a longer finshing wine.
Great wine from S. Africa. First tried it year ago. Great value price for a chewy, classy wine,
Good body. Balanced fruit.
Great wine for the price. This is definitely a 90/91 rating wine.
Smooth & Supple
Pleasant nose. On the palate it has good concentration, with flavors of berry, liquorish, and chocolate, tannins well integrated. And what a bargain!
Big & Bold
To drink all at once I would decant and swirl, leave for 30 minutes. Then enjoy! The key to this wine is air. The first pour was good but the second pour one day later, just lightly corked was so much better. The nose was more pronounced and the berries were more pronounced. I would say the balance of Tannins, acidity and fruit was best by the 3rd pour .
Earthy & Spicy
More fruit forward than I usually go for, but the blend creates good complexity which changes as the evening rolls on. A good value at $15.
90+ blend for $13!

Superb wine. Can't imagine a better party wine. A great bottle and value by any measure.
I am not a Bordeaux drinker but tried this due to rating, price and reviews. Very smooth had a young taste by that I mean a bit fruity. Did not try it with food specifically but would purchase again to pair with beef.
