To obtain a balanced, food-friendly Chardonnay, we source our fruit from the cooler areas of the Russian River Valley – the majority of our Chardonnay comes from Dutton Ranch. The cooling, marine-layer influences enable our fruit to be picked with a high level of acidity, resulting in a bright, fresh and crisp wine.
The French oak aging on our 2008 Russian River Chardonnay, offers up wonderful aromas of vanilla and crème brûlée; blending in with these warm aromas are bright scents of tropical and citrus fruits. On the palate, Meyer lemon, peach and melon are balanced by a creamy texture from sur lie aging.
The grapes were whole-cluster pressed directly into a combination of 50% new French oak and 50% used French oak. The wine went through native primary and malolactic fermentations and aged in barrel for 10 months.
"Delicate honeycrisp apple and melon rind flavors cool this wine down, while mild vanillin scents of oak and a touch of heat warm it up. The cool fruit wins out in the finish. A light-boded wine for grilled sea bass."
