Restrained oak and intense blueberry, black cherry and mint characters dominate the aromas; on the juicy palate, rich layers of vibrant black cherry and plush blackberry fruit come to the fore. Oak stays in the background as a supporting player, adding complexity to the wine but allowing its classic Alexander Valley character to shine, in which rich, juicy fruit and structured, fine-grained tannins harmonize in a balanced duet. The lively finish carries the wine's balance through to a lingering conclusion. Overall, balance, elegance and harmony are the hallmarks of this wine. Approachable now, the wine will improve in bottle for the next five to eight years.
