Winemaker's Notes

Selected healthy grapes from mountainside vineyards-including Breuer's top sites Berg Schlossberg and Nonnenberg are harvested at optimum maturity. Skin contact precedes fermentation and extended aging on the lees in oak ovals, in like manner to the top Cru bottlings. Careful assemblage results in interplay of Rudesheim's slate character with the more citric, floral personality of Raunthal: The quintessence of powerful and ageworthy Rheingau Riesling.

92 Points

"The '03 shows perfumed notes of apricot, rhubarb and spiced pear, concentrated and persistent, with refined length. Cellar it for a few years to develop complexity, or serve now with langoustines."
Wine & Spirits

88 Points

"Pale yellow. Subtle aromas of fresh peach, grapefruit and lemon oil. Sweet tropical fruit flavors are lifted by tangy, saline minerality. Nicely balanced wine with enticing spicy kick on the back end. In a classical Rheingau style." Joel Payne,
International Wine Cellar

Learn About Georg Breuer Map ItMap It

Georg Breuer was founded in 1880 by partners of the venerable wine shipping firm Scholl & Hillebrand, thereafter wholly owned by Georg Breuer and passed on to his sons Bernhard and Heinrich, the current proprietors. During the 1980's and 1990's the estate was carefully expanded from 20 acres to its present 60 acres, in the steepest, most well-drained vineyards of the Rheingau communes of Rudesheim and Rauenthal. Co-author of authoritative books on Germany's wine regions, Bernhard Breuer is respected internationally as a tireless defender of German viticultural integrity.
