Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2008 Russian River Selection shows tremendous concentration and power from another strong vintage. Intense aromas of dark cherries and plums are matched with warm spices and a leathery earthiness. The palate show great depth, weight and acidity with a seductive texture leading to a balanced finished.

Critical Acclaim

"A perfumed and attractive nose of ripe cherry, raspberry and spice hints gives way to supple, round and generous medium-bodied flavors that possess good length and balance save for a trace of finishing warmth. The tannins are firm but not hard and while there isn’t great depth, I like both the style as well as the delivery."
