Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Ruby red in color. This wine has a bright nose, with focused aromas of cranberry and plum. Nice floral lift on the palate, with more red fruit flavors (cherry, currant) and a hint of garrigue. Finishes with medium tannins and balanced acidity. Made with 100% Cabernet Franc.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2010 Lot 28 Cabernet Franc comes from 25+-year-old vines at 800 meters altitude and spends two winters in oak. It has a very convincing, fresh, expressive bouquet with pure brambly, briary black fruit and freshly tilled soil. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp black cherry and blueberry fruit on the entry. The tannins are fine and edgy, while the finish is beautifully composed and contains Margaux-like femininity. This is extremely well-crafted Cabernet Franc, surfeit with personality."
92 Points

"Bright ruby. Intense, spice-accented aromas of cherry, redcurrant and violet, with smoke and mineral topnotes. Juicy and precise on the palate, offering energetic red fruit flavors that take on weight with air. Finishes smoky, spicy and very long, with slow-building tannins and resonating florality."

Cab Franc is typically a favorite of mine. For this one @ $25/, I think Parker's 92 is a typo...shoulda been 82...poured out 95% of the 2 bottles I tried!!! I've had much better from the $79/case stuff like WSJ. Oh yeah - the wax cap is a total pain, as opposed to say Belle Glos which can be dealt with fairly easily.

Learn About Garage Wine Co.

Garage Wine Co. began in 2008 with the idea of making wine on a small scale, a personal scale, by hand with the family. It was (and still is!) physical work, and a therapeutic complement to the hustle and bustle of the new millenium. Few in Chile, back then, knew what a garagiste was, nor were they familiar with the gringo tradition of celebrated companies having began in the...

Learn About Chile

(CHEE-lay) Long and thin, Chile has a lot of land north to south. The wine region here is a series of districts based near Santiago. The vineyards are protected by the Pacific on the west and the Andes mountains on the east. This could help explain why the climate changes more from east to west than north to south - also why the country has remained phylloxera free....
