Gaja Sugarille Brunello di Montalcino 2001
Sangiovese
from Tuscany, Italy
winemaker's notes:
The unique position and soil structure of the Sugarille vineyard - calcareous clay with a gently sloping southern exposure - give this wine an expressive, powerful character. This is a very special terroir, producing outstanding, long-aging single-vineyard Brunello.
Color: Deep ruby.
Aroma: Rich, complex aromas of ripe fruit (plums and wild cherries), violets and hints of cloves and tobacco.
Taste: Elegant structure and ripe, well-integrated tannins. This wine is normally more austere in youth due to a firmer tannic structure. However, after 5-7 years, its depth and concentration lead to a complex flavor profile of great balance.
"Bright dark red. Highly perfumed aromas of red berries, red cherry, flowers, minerals, gunflint, leather, graphite and spices. Suave, deeply spicy and penetrating, with terrific extract and intensity to the juicy, pure red berry flavors. This compelling Brunello offers a silky texture, superb intensity and captivating inner-mouth perfume, finishing with compelling sweetness of tannins and outstanding breadth and length. Suavissimo!"
