Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

Pale straw color with green highlights.Fragrant aromatics reminiscent of grapefruit peel, bitter lemon, currant, guava, nettle and sweet herbs. Smoky and stone-like mineral notes add complexity and interest.

A full and complex spectrum of flavours, from herbal notes through to ripe tropical fruit salad. Tangy grapefruit, bitter lemon, blackcurrant and hints of tomato leaf and dried thyme. Mouthfeel is rounded with good weight, and is enriched by the barrel ferment components, which add creaminess too. Acidity is fresh and juicy but by no means tart, and helps to promote a signature dry, stony mineral finish.

Professional Ratings

This comes from estate vineyards in Wairau along with purchased fruit from the same area. A portion of the wine is barrel fermented, enriching the texture while still allowing the floral passion fruit intensity to shine through. It feels dry and structured.
  • 90
Smooth, with a fleshy base of peach and nectarine, highlighted by juicy acidity and details of Meyer lemon, melon and ruby grapefruit. A good mix of power and elegance.

Framingham, New Zealand
Framingham Winery Image

In a cluttered wine landscape, Framingham does things differently! With its first Wairau Valley vines were planted back in 1981 on warm, well-drained stony soils, the winery continues to utilize small batch winemaking techniques for depth of flavor and texture. Framingham takes a low-impact approach to vineyard management to restore balance with the land. The team does a lot of work by hand, avoiding systemic chemicals and planting flowers that encourage biodiversity.

Framingham is the home to the legendary annual Framingham Harvest concert, attended by international vintage workers and locals who come to celebrate in the Framingham winery courtyard. Up and coming bands from New Zealand take to the stage, including Framingham’s very own winery band, Renwick Nudes.

Framingham is accredited as a sustainable vineyard and winery under the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand program, the Estate vineyard is also Certified Organic through BioGro NZ Ltd. It's Sauvignon Blancs are Marlborough Appellation Wine Certified.

Recognized for its distinctively herbaceous and aromatic, Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand is perfectly suited to the grape with its maritime climate, plenty of rainfall and abundant sunshine. Producers have almost unilaterally embraced cutting-edge winery technology, resulting in clean, high-quality wines at every price point from wallet-friendly to premium. Sauvignon blanc is at its best in Marlborough but thrives throughout as the country. It is New Zealand’s most planted and successful variety, also accounting for an overwhelming majority of its exports.
