Winemaker's Notes

Flora Springs Barrel Fermented Chardonnay is Napa Valley history in a bottle. In 1980, at a time when Chardonnay was a true ambassador for wines from the New World, Flora Springs began its reign as one of the great Chardonnay producers from Napa Valley. Regardless of wine trends, Flora Springs continues to craft its Barrel Fermented Chardonnay in a style that has inspired both white wine producers and Chardonnay connoisseurs for the last 26 years.

The 2006 vintage offers rich flavors of peach and pear with a hint of pineapple on the palate. Due to the considerable richness that is inherent in Flora Spings' fruit, this wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation. They choose to highlight the bright acidity available in their Chardonnay to create a delicious wine that can pair beautifully with food or simply be enjoyed alone.

Tasty Chardonnay. I prefer a more oakey, buttery Chardonnay and this one tends to be a little more fruit forward. Nonetheless, there are buttery overtones intermixed with the pineapple, pear and tropical flavors offered by this wine. Certainly one to enjoy. I'm told that Flora Springs can be "hit or miss" each year, but this 2006 Barrel Fermented vintage is a winner.
