The Wine Advocate - "A brilliant effort, the 2006 Syrah Rodney's Vineyard reveals notes of lavender, charcoal, truffles, creme de cassis, blackberries, and smoky oak. This full-bodied, multilayered, textured, voluptuous Syrah possesses beautiful density, sweet, silky tannins, and stunning concentration as well as purity. It should drink well for 7-8 years"
Wine Enthusiast - "The sheer deliciousness gives this wine its high score. It's like a decadent pastry dessert, with dark chocolate truffle, grilled black cherry, cassis, anise and sandalwood flavors sprinkled with cinnamon and pepper. But it's fully dry. The high alcohol and softness suggest drinking now. "
Wine Spectator - "Fleshy plum and cherry jam flavors are wrapped in firm tannins in this full-bodied effort, picking up mineral and tobacco notes on the long, fleshy finish. Drink now through 2011."
International Wine Cellar - "Dark purple. Musky scents of blackcurrant, cherry skin and rooty sassafras, with slow-building olive and violet qualities. Broad, fleshy dark berry liqueur flavors are framed by velvety tannins, picking up cracked pepper and olive notes with air. A serious, chewy wine that develops sweetness and spiciness on the long, sappy finish. Decant this if you plan on opening it any time soon."

Fess Parker Winery
When Fess Parker was cast in the roll of Davy Crockett in the mid-1950's, it caused an international sensation and changed his life forever. So, too, did the purchase of 714 acres in the Santa Ynez Valley change the course of the Parker family's history.
Realizing the potential of Santa Barbara County as a premium grape-growing region, Fess and his son, Eli, originally set out in 1989 to plant a small vineyard and sell fruit to local producers. But, as Fess' daughter, Ashley explains, "Fess is from Texas, so he can't do anything small." The Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard now farms almost 700 acres on four vineyards throughout Santa Barbara County. View all Fess Parker Wines
About Santa Maria ValleyView a map of Santa Maria Valley wineries
Situated near the ocean in the larger Santa Barbara district, the Santa Maria Valley appellation runs east to west. Pacific Ocean air funnels in to cool the vineyards, allowing the grapes to evenly ripen and reach their full potential. This unique climate paired with the region's well-drained soils helps create some sought-after grapes.
Notable FactsPinot Noir and Chardonnay are the most planted varieties in the AVA, which covers over 7,000 acres of land. Syrah is gaining more ground as it consistantly produces outstanding wines. Many vineyards are owned by growers and sold to wineries, so seeing a vineyard name on multiple producer's bottles is common. One of the better known vineyards, Bien Nacido, is found on the labels of some of the most prestigious wines of the area.
About CaliforniaIt's not rare to see a wine's country of origin listed as "California." A country into itself in the wine world, California makes enough varieties and styles to match many European wine countries. It produces a diverse range of wines that span the quality spectrum.
The most famous of the California wine regions is Napa Valley, and these wines are certainly outstanding – but it's not as broad and diverse as its larger neighbor, Sonoma County. Down south, Santa Barbara's Santa Maria Valley is well-known for its Rhône blends, as well as cool-climate varieties like Pinot and Chardonnay. The Central Coast, the largest California AVA, has many different microclimates that lead to a wide range of wines with many sub-AVAs.

This is a dark garnet color Syrah that opens with an incredible boysenberry/blackberry bouquet, with hints of black pepper. Full-bodied, with sweet & silky tannins, very juicy with a nice balance of spicy mulberry and black licorice notes. The finish is dry and lingers quite nicely. An awesome Syrah! I wasn't a big Syrah fan...until I tried this one - I'm hooked! This is definitely a winner!! I highly recommend it.richard hirsch - Denver, CO512/2/2011
