Pinot Noir from Central Otago, New Zealand
The classic signature of Block 3: Crushed herb and chocolate leads the nose as well as the palate where raspberry, cherry and boysenberry can be detected supporting the mid-palate. It is both rich yet transparent in the mouth, serious and focused, with crisp minerality and great energy, driving the flavors through to a long finish of rich chocolate mocha soaked in raspberry with earthy depths and toasted highlights.
International Wine Cellar - "Bright medium red. Precise aromas of raspberry and minerals call to mind a wine from the southern Cote de Nuits. Urgent, sharply delineated yet utterly silky flavors of sweet berries and minerals saturate the palate. This wonderfully rich and substantial but classically dry wine offers an uncanny sappy quality and positively vibrates in the mouth. Finishes with broad, suave tannins and outstanding persistence."
Wine & Spirits - "Tense black fruit powers this wine, with black cherry-skin tannins that hold it in place. As a young wine, it feels like a clean and saturated New World pinot, but there’s more to it that simple fruit. Earthiness comes up with air, creating a veil of tannin and added dimension to the flavors. From 15-year-old vines biodynamically grown in loamy soil, this responds well to long aeration, as it will to bottle age."
The Wine Advocate - "Cropped at 5-6.5tons/ha and matured for 11 months in 55% new French oak, the 2007 Block 3 Pinot Noir has a Burgundian nose with superb definition and fruit intensity: wild strawberry, raspberry and a sense of earthiness. The palate is medium-bodied, very fine tannins and sense of symmetry. Elegant, perhaps less weighty than the 2006, but supremely well crafted. It should age effortlessly over the next decade."

Felton Road Winery
Felton Road Wines Ltd, in Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand, has planted some of the world's southernmost vineyards. The expression, "growing on the edge," has real meaning in Central Otago, with the lowest rainfall and lowest temperatures of any agricultural region in New Zealand.
Central Otago is located on the southern end of New Zealand's South Island (latitude 45º south) and shares with Oregon (45º north) similar viticultural challenges: late frosts in Spring, early frost in Autumn, a growing season that may be curtailed overnight. Yet the climates of both are surprisingly similar to Burgundy's Côte d'Or: hot in summer, cold in winter. The southernmost vineyards of the world lie here in Central Otago. Unlike most other New Zealand appellations, Central Otago is inland - nestled right in the middle of the southern island. Its lack of proximity to water creates weather more continental than maritime, leading to big temperature shifts – hot during the day, significantly cooler at night.
Notable FactsThe region's continental climate, paired with the variety of soils found in the area, make Central Otago perfect for growing the finicky Pinot Noir grape. Covering almost 80% of the area planted with vines, Pinot Noir is the dominant grape variety, and the wine it creates from the region is receiving rave reviews for its balanced purity and intensity. Some Chardonnay is grown here, but Pinot is king.

Alcohol By Volume GuideMost wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume.
