The 2006 is the first Fantesca Cabernet to benefit from Heidi Barrett's touch. She joined us in time to create the final blend from lots vinified by Nils and Kirk Venge, and her hand is evident.
The nose hints at a rich, spicy vanilla and promises a firm core of dark fruit. The first sip delivers it.
This mountain Cabernet, blended with 4% Petit Verdot also from the Estate Vineyards, shows bright notes of black cherry beautifully framed by integrated tannins. The cherry flavors integrate the polished tannins without ever ceding their place as the focal point of the wine. Although soft, the tannins are ample enough to draw out a long, balanced finish.
Complete, with fruit at the front, fullness in the mid-palate, and a sustaining elegant finish, this is the most polished and integrated Cabernet yet produced by Fantesca.
On the palate, the wine is impeccably balanced. It has soft, well-integrated tannins that seem perfectly matched to the level of fruit to allow for 10+ years of aging.
