Eyrie Pinot Noir Estate 2002
Pinot Noir
from Willamette Valley, Oregon
winemaker's notes:
Eyrie's Pinot Noir combines elegant structure and depth with the Pinot Noir flavors that typify the Eyrie style.
Eyrie's Pinot Noir is subject to minimal intervention in both the vineyard and vinification. Restrained use of oak and spontaneous malolactic fermentation contributed to this wines balance and varietal expression.
David Lett planted the first Pinot Noir vines in the Willamette Valley back in 1965 and The Eyrie Vineyards has been producing famously elegant, classic wines since 1970. The first Pinot Noir in the Willamette Valley, and America's first Pinot Gris producer.

This is best described as feminine. More nuanced than anything I've tasted coming out of California. Eyrie's 02 is subtle, complex, sexy, lush, pretty, and everything that other pinots, from hotter regions, can never be. It's a contemplative buzz. Great conversation ensues. Don't expect to be hit over the head with this one. Drink it when you have the time and headspace to let it sink in just how delicious this is.
And 02 was a great year for Oregon pinot. The best in recent memory from a region with a short history. In general I recommend grabbing any 02 Oregon pinot. If a winery is capable of making a good pinot, 02 was the year they were gonna do it. And David Lett can do it. This wine is just excellent.
