Winemaker Notes

Estate grown and bottled 100% Malbec made of selected grapes from old vines. This is a huge wine, deep red violet with dark fruit aromas, firm structure, full-bodied, long finish. Excellent with rich spiced dishes, strong cheeses, roast or grilled meats, tuna, salmon and chocolate.

The 2003 vintage received "Year's Best Argentine Malbec" by Wine & Spirits Magazine.

Professional Ratings

The 2006 Reserva Malbec is a blend of two vineyards, 53 years and 90 years old respectively. It, too, spent 12 months in 40% new French oak. Purple-colored, it displays an expressive perfume of balsam wood, leather, underbrush, spice box, and black cherry. Smooth-textured and suave on the palate, it has loads of savory black fruit and spice notes, excellent concentration, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Cellar it for 2-3 years and drink it from 2011 to 2021.

Presently Bodega Enrique Foster possesses two vineyards located in the Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina. The vineyards sit at an elevation of 3,000 feet above sea level on the eastern flank of the Andes, with hot days, cold nights and little rain.

The construction of the cellars began by digging out a huge crater of more than 6000 cubic meters to create cellars which will accommodate up to 2000 barrels. The cellars were then totally buried under tons of earth and highly-insulating pumice stone to assure a constant temperature and humidity ideal for the ageing of our Malbec without the use of air conditioning.

Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
