Winemaker's Notes

Ruby red in color with light garnet highlights. This wine has a great finesse on the nose, harmonious and complex. Sensations of ripe red fruit, typical of Nebbiolo, with spicy undertones. Enveloping tannins, great elegance and persistence on the palate.

Critical Acclaim

"A supple, elegant red, combining finesse and intensity. Cherry, raspberry, floral and mineral aromas and flavors fit seamlessly with the vibrant structure, as the finish lingers gracefully. Very harmonious and long. Best from 2014 through 2028. 100 cases imported."
94 Points

"The 2008 Barbaresco Bordini is much more focused and inward than the 2007. Dark red cherries, plums, licorice, mint and minerals are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. The 2008 impresses for its cut and sheer energy. It is a very classic Barbaresco that could use another few years in bottle. Tar, mint and licorice are nicely layered into the finessed finish. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2023."

Style: Smooth & Supple
For such a young vintage, this is an exceptional Barbaresco. The presentation was typical of this varietal with colors of rose and garnet. The nose was rich and well balanced with hints of licorice and mild earth. The pallet was very well balanced with notes of black cherries, mild spices, earthy florals. Its finish was long and smooth devoid of any bitterness that often accompanies young wines made from the nebbiolo grape. I would suggest a case or two for the cellar as this vintage will be superb when it reaches it's peak. I think the 94 point rating was a little stingy for this exceptional offering. I would give it a solid 95 points and hoist it to level of collectable.

After a long and fruitful partnership with Marcarini at La Morra, in 1990 Cogno bought a splendid...

Learn About Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo(neh-bee-OH-low) The King of Piedmont Nebbiolo is the key grape in the wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. It is not the most planted variety, but it does make the most distinctive and age-worthy wines. Native to Piedmont, Nebbiolo is a bit of a soil snob - it's finicky about where it grows and has long been the honored red grape of Northern Italy...
