Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Twelve years after the start of El Seque, owner Juan Carlos has mastered the way to clearly reflect the freshness and concentrated balsamic characters produced in his seasoned and mature Monastrell fruit, making wines of great character and balance.

Deep red and purple in color, this wine has aromas of ripe fruit and Mediterranean forest floor. On the palate the wine is voluminous, smooth and full of mature tannins. Mediterranean in character, with hints of mint and aromatic herbs, the wine has a remarkable freshness and very long finish.

80% Monastrell, 10% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon

Critical Acclaim

"Deep, bright ruby. Ripe red berry and cherry aromas show good depth and a hint of jamminess. Fleshy and smooth in texture, offering sweet raspberry and cherry compote flavors and a hint of bitter chocolate. The suave finish features notes of blood orange and candied flowers."

It becomes better and better after decanting for 2hrs. It reminds me to Wellington’s Noir de noir at $45. Very nice value if you’re into old vine style.

Committed to the quest of producing unique wines with identity, winemaker and owner Juan Carlos López de la Calle believes old vines are the key to accomplishing this complex pursuit. After having achieved success in Rioja and Navarra, Juan Carlos went to Alicante for the extreme climatic conditions, disparate soil types and, above all, for the old-vine Monastrell indigenous to the region.
