Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 12.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2008 vintage of El Coto's entry level Crianza is a blockbuster! This 100% Tempranillo shows layers of fresh raspberries, cherry, cedar and spice typical of a classically styled Rioja. This is all wrapped up in a vanilla and leather laiden package that is medium in body and sports a long, soft finish. Always a good value!

The Wine...El Coto Crianza 2008...The scene...Wife and I entertaing ourselves with a Tapas style party with cheese, olives, sardines and chorizo with fresh bread from Mariano's. Tempranillo wine was the suggested wine when indulging in a Tapas party setting and seeing this is a wine I enjoy it was a perfect choice. A bit dissapointed with the wine...a bit flat on taste but a spicy aftertaste that the wife did not like. Not sure that we would buy this one again
