winemaker's notes:

Fragrant, floral and redolent with black-cherry fruit, the 2007 Pinot Noir exhibits the delicacy and allure of this captivating varietal. Hints of rose petal, caramel and forest floor weave through the jammy fruit core. The mid-palate is pleasant and smooth with fine tannins. Subtle cola and perfume nuances alight the finish for lingering enjoyment of this pretty red wine. Enjoy with gamey flavors such as duck, venison or wild mushroom pasta.

Located halfway between San Francisco and Los Angles, San Luis Obispo appellation is known for its east-west running valleys that pull in cool marine breezes off the Pacific Ocean. Perfectly suited for Pinot Noir, the temperatures warm up by mid-day but rarely get hot, enabling the grapes to linger on the vine and develop ripe, complex flavors. A majority of the vineyards are located in the Edna Valley where we have added new acreage, using the latest rootstocks and vineyard technologies. The growing maturity of these vineyards has added concentration and depth of flavor to our Pinot Noir wines.

2007 was a benchmark vintage in San Luis Obispo. It started off cool with moderate temperatures that continued throughout the growing season. Meticulously maintained, the vines in the valley are farmed to exacting specifications and winemakers were able to push the Pinot Noir to perfect ripeness, ultimately harvesting well into mid-September. The resulting clusters were well-developed with small berries and concentrated flavors. The 2007 Pinot Noir showcases the varietal and the superiority of the vintage in true fashion.

critical acclaim:

"Shimmering cherry red hue. Aromas of raspberry, butterscotch and vanilla. Silky mouth-feel offers vanilla, black cherry and briar qualities. Drying close with cherry pit notes and welcome acid."

rating (9/28/2010):

This is a nice, drinkable wine from Edna Valley, perhaps one of their better recent vintages, and offers nice spicy notes on the nose, and a nice mouth feel. Berries and jammy flavors complement to balanced acids, and create a quite harmonious finish.

This is an excellent Pinot Noir for this price. It's very smooth all the way through. Nice cherry hints with fabulous aroma.
