winemaker's notes:
These wines come from the same vineyards that, in a year when a Vintage is "declared", produce Vintage Port. However, as they are bottled between the fourth and sixth year after the harvest, they mature more quickly and are ready to drink much sooner.
Dow's LBV is a full rich Port with spicy ripe fruit flavors and an elegant aromatic nose. Well rounded on the palate and has the traditional Dow's drier finish.

Delaforce 1981 Late Bottle Vintage -- aside from the bargain price, this is a marvelous "old-fashioned' port. not terribly sweet, with wonderful balance amd acidity. Softly redolent of black cherries and figs, with an unctuous undertone of slightly-smoky berries. A thoroughly "autumnal" wine. Utterly delicious with Stilton, thoroughly-ripened Camembert, and
a not-too-firm Gruyere. Marvelous wine for the cheese course between entree and dessert.

An excellent LBV (late-bottled vintage port), drinkable now, and available at a very reasonable price. Predominant flavors are ripe, concentrated bing cherry and pure cane sugar. A variety of sub-notes ebb and flow through the finish, adding to the complexity. More bright and less profound than some of Dow's more expensive vintage offerings, but well worth the price and a delicious port in its own right.
