ratings pedigree (past vintages):
red wine style:
Light & Fruity Smooth & Supple Earthy & Spicy Big & Bold
winemaker's notes:

Shows a deep red claret colour with violet hue towards the rim. Powerful nose with ripe red fruit, and hint of violets and minerals. Fresh, elegant and clean, delicious with plenty of varietal flavors on the palate. Sweet tannins and refreshing but integrated acidity.

critical acclaim:

""This purple-colored effort exhibits an attractive bouquet of minerals, earth, black cherry and raspberry. This is followed by a medium-bodied wine with concentrated, ripe fruit, excellent depth, and a pure finish.""

Over the past year, I tend to go back to getting this bottle. Nice flavor.

nice and peppery. medium bodied and food friendly. a great everyday wine for dinner.
rating (9/24/2010):
First things first: This wine is NOT a Ribera del Duero. It is its own D.O. - El Bierzo - with its own grape, Mencia, in Castile-Leon. It is NOT a Ribera del Duero, which typically uses Tempranillo. It opens weak and smells of minerals (but don't be afraid), so need to wait 10 minutes or so; it is also better with food (I ate it with light pasta with seafood). Then, BAM, great fruit (black cherry and, I think, cranberry) but not cloying sweet (my bugaboo), acid is well balanced, medium bodied, and the mineral really grows on you. Tannic acids seems subdued but that's ok. I had a hard time putting the bottle away. I would buy this again.

This wine is definitely NOT a Ribera del Duero, it is a wine from the BIERZO region!!!! Could you please correct this mistake?!
rating (9/21/2010):

I left it in a decanter for about an hour and a half before a poured a glass and fell in love with it from the first sip! Bone dry and lots of soft tannins and minerals. Medium bodied but drinks like a full-bodied wine. Highly recommend it to those who are looking for something different..you won't be dissapointed
A Customer - Massachusetts
This was a Spanish wine I had never tried before. I loved it! I am ordering more. It has a distinctive, pleasant taste. It certainly doesn't taste like any old wine.
