Winemaker's Notes

Malavieille's Flagship bottling, in production for more than 20 years and named after the estate's distinctive red, Permien clay soils. Offers spicy red fruit, smoke, camphor, ash and incense on the nose. Medium-bodied on the palate, with a strong underlying minerality from the basalt-rich volcanic deposits that characterize the estate's soils.

60% Carignan, 20% Grenache, and 20% Syrah.

Critical Acclaim

"A blend of old-vine Carignan grown on the basalt-rich terraces of Larzac and 20 percent each Grenache and Syrah, this is brooding and meaty, with almost bloody, ferrous red fruit and a thistle-like herbal note. With it's mouthwatering acidity, the wine asks for food - duck rillettes or roasted game birds in a tart cherry sauce. "
